John Carpenter was born on January 16, 1948. He like others of the period grew up during the golden age of Sci-Fi films and Carpenter like many others took an avid interest. Unlike most others however he decided to take his passion for the genre and film in general and pursue it as a career. Although he attended more then one college and later dropped out he still managed to astoundingly win an Academy Award for a student film he made so early in his career. This however was only the beginning of a career that would show him to be one of the most important film directors of modern times.
